The region of Limburg is the highlight of the Dutch cycling tradition. The hills provide excellent training ground for long distance cyclers, mountain bikers and leisure riders.
Long Distance Cycling
There are numerous gorgeous medium and long distance cycling tours touching on Hotel Kadampa Holland in Schin op Geul, such as Rondje Cauberg or the Mergellandroute. The local tourist office VVV Valkenburg can help you select a tour that suits your interest or you can order biking routes in Zuid Limburg at the ANWB. Also it is worthwhile to surf around for biking routes online such as these.
Yearly there are several long distance cycling races organised in the area for both professionals and amateurs, male and female cyclers. Many regular guests of Hotel Kadampa Holland take part in these races, but it is also a delight to come and stay as a supporter and join the event from the sideline. In April the races start with the "Amstel Gold Race" in which thousands of cyclers participate. In June there is "Limburgs Mooiste" (Limburg's Most Beautiful One) and in September the "Boogy Extreme", "Mergelheuvelland Tweedaagse", "10 hours of Valkenburg", or the "Vuelta Valkenburg" of which all profits will be donated to charity. Hotel Kadampa Holland has a secure bicycle storage in the basement of the hotel (for more information, please ask Reception). Please book your accommodation for these races well in advance, as rooms are limited.
Mountain Biking
Needless to say that mountain biking is immensely popular in the area. "Limburgs Mooiste" has challenging races for mountain bikers. Rent a Bike
Limburg is a lovely place to tour around on your own or with your friend, see the local county side, meet the local people, visit some cafes on the way and enjoy the weekend out on your bicycle away from the rush of everyday life. You can either bring your own bike or rent a bike. Near Hotel Kadampa Holland there are several places where you can rent all types of bicycles. Please ask reception to help you to get going.
